Free Narcan and Training to be Held at Five Beaufort County Library Branches Before the Holidays
Thursday, December 5, 2024 9:22 AM
The holidays are a time of celebration and festivities for many people, but it can be one of the hardest times of the year for others. With seasonal depression, increased stress, loneliness, and triggers to use substances, there are generally more overdoses and an increase in drug and alcohol use during the holidays.
Nexus Care of Beaufort County, in partnership with the Beaufort County Library System and the Beaufort County First Responder Project, will offer free Naloxone, a life-saving nasal spray for opioid overdose reversal.
This will be available on Monday, December 16, beginning at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.., at five County Library branches:
- Bluffton Branch, 120 Palmetto Way
- Hilton Head Branch, 11 Beach City Road
- St. Helena Branch, 6355 Jonathan Francis Sr. Road
- Lobeco Branch (until 6 pm), 1862 Trask Parkway
- Port Royal Branch, 1408 Paris Avenue
The training helps people understand how to identify the signs of opioid poisoning and how to help someone who may be experiencing opioid toxicity due to prescription misuse, accidental exposure to opioids, or use of non-prescribed drugs laced with Fentanyl.
No appointment is required, and everyone participating in the five-minute training will receive a free supply of Naloxone nasal spray.
Nexus Care of Beaufort County also offers free Naloxone Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at both office locations:
- 1905 Duke Street, Suite 270, Beaufort 843-255-6000
- 4819 Bluffton Parkway, Suite 303, Bluffton 843-255-6020
