The State 2% Accommodations Tax Committee is doing a second round of grant funding. In order to apply for this year’s State 2% ATAX Grant, the State Accommodations Tax Committee is hosting another workshop to help ensure proper application and expenditure of funds. This will also allow applicants to ask questions and get a better idea of the process.

The workshop will be held in Beaufort County Council Chambers, Wednesday, December 4, beginning at 9 a.m., lasting roughly 2 hours. The Administration Building is located at 100 Ribaut Road (map).

This workshop will be mandatory for anyone who has not attended one of the previous workshops hosted by the County, but is open to all potential applicants seeking additional information.

Applications for the second round of funding will be accepted beginning Monday, December 2 through Wednesday, January 15.

As a reminder, this is a grant process for projects and events increasing tourism. Grant requests must not be used as an additional source of revenue to provide services normally provided by the County, but to promote tourism and enlarge its economic benefits through advertising, promotion, and providing those facilities and services which enhance the ability of the county to attract and provide for tourists.

Tourism-related expenditures include: advertising and promotion of tourism so as to develop and increase tourist attendance through the generation of publicity; promotion of the arts and cultural events; construction, maintenance, and operation of facilities for civic and cultural activities including construction and maintenance of access and other nearby roads and utilities for the facilities; the criminal justice system, law enforcement, fire protection, solid waste collection, and health facilities when required to serve tourists and tourist facilities; and public facilities such as restrooms, dressing rooms, parks, and parking lots.

To be eligible for State 2% Accommodations Tax funds, a representative from each organization must attend this workshop hosted by Beaufort County’s State ATAX Committee.

This workshop is only mandatory if a member of the organization did not attend the one of two previous workshops. The Committee is only requiring attendance at one of the three workshops offered this year.
