In an effort to increase safety on the SC 170 corridor, Beaufort County Engineering Department conducted a speed study from Argent Road to SC 462. The study recommended a speed reduction along this segment which has been reviewed and approved by SCDOT.

The current speed limit in the section from Argent Boulevard to SC 462 is 55 mph and will now be reduced to 45 mph.

The official speed limit reduction will go into effect by Friday, November 15. Motorists are encouraged to take note of new signage reflecting the new speed limit.

Beaufort County had previously installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of SC 170, E Argent Blvd, and Oldfield Way.
