Highlights and Actions: Public Facilities and Safety Committee Meeting

The Beaufort County Public Facilities and Safety Committee met Monday and here are some highlights:
- County Administrator Michael Moore gave a brief update on hurricane clean up efforts and progress being made around the County; he also recognized Brad Harriott and Bryan Bauer on their recent promotions to Director of Public Works and Director of Engineering, respectively.
- Special Assistant to the County Administrator Hank Amundson gave an update on County docks and boat landings and the Daufuskie Ferry service maintenance schedule. In light of the Sapelo Island tragedy, Public Works is performing additional inspections of all County landings and gangplanks beyond their regular schedule.
- Director of Engineering Bryan Bauer gave a brief powerpoint presentation (informational only) of the 2024 Sales Tax Update. Council Members have been hosting district meetings sharing the information with attendees. More information on the upcoming referendum can be found at www.beaufortcountypenny.com.

Motion: It was moved by Council Member Tabernik, Seconded by Council Member to recommend to Council for the Chairman to Create a Subcommittee for the Purpose of Reviewing Applications and Making Recommendations to Council for the Appointment of three County Appointed Members of the Citizen Oversight Committee for the 1% Sales Tax Projects and that Council ask Staff to Create a Web Portal and an Application for the Oversight Committee.

- Recommend approval to Council of an ordinance authorizing acceptance of a drainage easement located at 10 Quail Ridge Circle South
- Recommend approval to Council of an ordinance authorizing the County Administrator to execute all necessary documents for acceptance of right of way properties associated with Sheppard Road, Causey Way and Dock Builders Drive on Lady's Island
- Recommend approval to Council of contract award for design contract to Kimley Horn for the realignment of SC462 and SC 170
- Recommend approval to Council of a resolution to accept an SCAC grant in the amount of $140,405 for HXD air traffic control tower radio suite equipment replacement
- Recommend approval to Council of a resolution to accept an SCAC grant in the amound of $157,006 for ARW runway rehabilitation project
- Recommend approval to Council of a resolution authorizing the County Administrator to accept a grant in aid from the SC Department of Public Health
- Recommend approval to Council of an ordinance authorizing the County Administrator to execute the necessary documents to purchase and fund the purchase of the real property located at 247 Robert Smalls Parkway
The next Public Facilities and Safety Committee meeting will be Monday, November 18, at 3 p.m.
The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, October 28, at 5 p.m.
