The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Beaufort County for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

"I am proud of the Beaufort County Finance Team and our partners who help achieve our goals," said Acting County Finance Director John Robinson. "This team of professionals works hard to ensure Beaufort County continues to succeed and act as good stewards of public funds."

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“The certificate of achievement is the greatest recognition that Beaufort County can receive for governmental accounting and financial reporting,” said Christine Webb, the County’s Finance Compliance Director. “I'm proud of our team for earning this significant accomplishment again this year.”

Certificate of Achievement requirements for jurisdictions include adhering to all pronouncements issued by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and an annual audit by an external certified public accounting firm. An impartial panel judged the comprehensive financial report to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

This report provides important information to Beaufort County Council, Administration, all departments and Beaufort County taxpayers concerning how public funds are being spent and managed.
