Highlights and Actions: Community Services and Land Use Committee and Beaufort County Council

The Beaufort County Community Services and Land Use Committee met Monday and here are some highlights:
- Audra Antonacci-Ogden, Assistant County Administrator, gave a brief update:
- Rebecca Witt, Director of Nexus Care (formerly Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department) shared information about their upcoming community event at Battery Creek High School
- Caroline Fermin, Director of Beaufort County Veterans Affairs gave a wrap up from the recent Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event. More than 75 local veterans--both men and women--took advantage of a variety of services including hair cuts, mental health programs, social services, and enrollment veteran benefit services
- Presentation by Mike McShane, Chair, Greenspace Committee to request a fund review for third party appraisals and Mitchelville appraisals
- Presentation by Brenda Dooley, Habitat for Humanity concept and plan for Affordable Housing Plan for Veterans
- Highlights from committee action on the following agenda items:
- Recommend approval to Council of an ordinance for text amendment to Community Development Code to provide exemptions to address County Public Services Uses
- Recommend approval to Council of an ordinance for a comprehensive plan amendment to add the Beaufort County Housing Impact Analysis as an appendix to the 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m., Monday evening.
Below are some highlights from that meeting:
- Presentation of a proclamation recognizing Recovery Month
- Presentation of a proclamation recognizing Members of the SC State Guard
- Third reading of an ordinance to amend Beaufort County's Traffic Impact Analysis
- Public hearing and second reading of an ordinance authorizing the County Administrator to execute necessary documents to provide funding for eh purchase of the Cooler Tract
- Public hearing and second reading of an ordinance authorizing the County Administrator to execute the necessary documents to convey real property located at Buckwalter Parkway for development of workforce and affordable housing, medical facilities and other matters related thereto
- First reading of an ordinance accepting the transfer of authority for conducting municipal elections from the Town of Port Royal to Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections
Highlights from the Consent Agenda:
- Second reading of an ordinance to repeal and replace ordinances to establish new policies of centralized purchasing and competitive bidding for county agencies
- Approval of a resolution authorizing the County Administrator to accept block grant awards offered by SC Department of Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Services
- Approval of a contract to pave around Bluffton Township Fire District's Training Building
Matters arising out of Executive Session:
- Special Session of County Council to be held Monday, September 16 to view presentations of Pine Island issue
The next Community Services and Land Use Committee meeting will be Monday, October 14, at 3 p.m.
The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, September 23, at 5 p.m.
