Beaufort County Services Update After Tropical Storm Debby

All Beaufort County offices and facilities remain closed today, Wednesday, August 7 and will reopen for regular business tomorrow Thursday, August 8, beginning at 8 a.m. 

“It appears that Beaufort County has weathered the worst of Tropical Storm Debby. I am grateful for the preparation and coordination of our county offices, municipalities, and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office,” said Administrator Michael Moore. “We will continue to provide storm response and cleanup efforts throughout the county.”

Plans for Rescinding the State of Emergency
Beaufort County Council plans to rescind the state of emergency for Beaufort County tomorrow, August 8 at 2 p.m., provided conditions do not worsen significantly overnight.

Travel Advisory
Flooding and debris may still be on some roadways. Power lines may also be down in some areas. Please continue to be cautious if you must travel and remember to keep roads clear for law enforcement and emergency vehicles. The South Carolina Department of Transportation has an interactive map of all current road closures.

Emergency Shelters Have Closed
Both of the two shelters located in Beaufort County as well as the regional shelter in Jasper County have closed.

County Animal Services

County Public Works Department
County Public Works crews worked diligently through the storm cleaning up downed trees and addressing localized flooding. Crews will turn their attention toward clean-up efforts once the storm has passed. County Public Works crews handled over 275 calls for service during the storm.

County Convenience Centers
County Convenience Centers will reopen tomorrow, August 8. Decals will still be required for residents to dispose of storm debris, but the limit of three visits per week will be waived through Sunday, August 11. As a reminder, convenience centers are for residential trash and debris only.

County Airports
Both Beaufort Executive Airport and Hilton Head Island Airport are open and operating on normal schedules. Passengers should continue to check with their airlines in case of continued storm-related delays.

Daufuskie Island Ferry Service
Lowcountry Ferry service to Daufuskie anticipates returning to its normal schedule at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 8. Check their website for the latest developments.
