As part of its continued efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding alcohol and substance misuse, Beaufort County is excited to announce that the department providing treatment services and programs has rebranded into Nexus Care of Beaufort County.
“The rebrand of the department is a monumental event not only for Beaufort County Government, but for our community members as well. The new logo aligns perfectly with the mission of the department, and I am so grateful to be part of such an important change,” said Audra Antonacci-Ogden, Assistant County Administrator of Community Services.
Since its beginning in 1974, the department has helped families, individuals, and the community overcome addiction and substance misuse. For some, these programs and services are a requirement of the law, for others the programs are a requirement for life. The department’s mission is to reduce the negative impact of alcohol and drugs in Beaufort County by providing its citizens with person-centered prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services.
Department Director Rebecca Whitt-Burgess created a comprehensive community survey to source themes, resonating imagery, history, and goals for the department. A committee of stakeholders reviewed the responses, where culture, natural elements, inspiration, hope, health, and connection were top responses.
The NEXUS symbolizes a central hub – where all elements converge for an individual seeking services. Whether it is a Beaufort County citizen seeking support for themselves or a family member, or someone being referred for services from a community partner, the nexus represents vital resources they can connect to through the department. Primary care, medication, mental health services, case management, housing, education, and more are available.
The clinical CARE team is a Compassionate Alliance for Recovery Empowerment. These certified, licensed addiction professionals include clinicians and peer support specialists who draw from their long-term recovery experiences to guide others on their journey.
The new logo is intentionally aligned with the Beaufort County Government emblem: the petals comprising the nexus symbol are taken from the waves present in the government seal. Each one symbolizes a facet of the continuum of care offered by the department: prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery. The color scheme evokes our natural surroundings and culture, and the tagline Healthy People. Thriving Communities. Brighter Futures. echoes the vital mission of the department.
Rebecca Whitt-Burgess emphasized the importance of reducing stigma for those seeking help through this rebrand effort, stating, “As we celebrate our 50th year of service to Beaufort County residents, we remain committed to delivering the quality care that we have always provided. Our new brand Nexus Care of Beaufort County will propel us forward in our vision of a thriving community free from substance misuse.”
