The Beaufort County Public Facilities and Safety Committee met Monday and here are some highlights:
- County Project Update from Assistant County Administrator Hank Amundson- Projects in progress and out to bid include:

- Spanish Moss Trail
- County Community Centers in Sheldon, Dafuskie Island and St. Helena
- Beach Bathrooms on Daufuskie Island
- Camp St. Marys
- Okatie River Park
- Crystal Lake Park
- Whitehall Park phase 2--dock permit
- Charles Lind Brown Community Center and Gym
- Southside Pickleball Courts--permit for construction
- Approval to send to Council a resolution authorizing the Interim County Administrator to accept an infrastructure planning grant from the SC Rural Infrastructure Authority for the Alljoy community
- Approval to Council of a resolution to accept FAA grant funding for:
- BIL Airport Terminal and HXD terminal improvements
- HHI Airport Taxiway F rehabilitation project
- HHI airfield drainage improvements
- Approval to Council to award Consor Engineers the design contract for Paukie Island Causeway culvert replacement
The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting immediately following the Public Facilities and Safety Committee meeting Monday evening.
Below are some highlights from that meeting:
- Council Member Tabernik presented a proclamation recognizing Dr. Frank Rodriguez as SC Superintendent of the Year
- Approval of public hearing and third reading of an ordinance for a 2024 Transportation Sales and Use Tax Referendum
- Approval of public hearing and second reading authorizing the acceptance of drainage easements association with drainage systems located in Shell Point
- Approval of first reading of an ordinance to amend Beaufort County's Traffic Impact Analysis Policy
- Approval of First reading of an ordinance providing for the appropriation of funds for FY24/25 generated by Local Hospitality Tax
- Approval of First reading of an ordinance providing for the appropriation of funds for FY24/25 generated by Local Accommodations Tax
- Approval of resolution adopting the 2024 County Compensation and Classification Study
From the Consent Agenda:
- Approval of a letter of support for Beaufort Jasper Housing Trust
- Approval to authorize the Interim County Administrator to enter into a contract with Haig Point Club and Community Association's ferry company for EMS/Medivac ferry services for Daufuskie Island
- Approval to extend the deadline for agricultural use at properties 683 Eddings Point Road and 711 Eddings Point Road

The next Public Facilities and Safety Committee meeting will be Monday, August 26, at 3 p.m.
The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, July 8, at 5 p.m.
