Michael Moore Selected As County Administrator

Michael Moore has been selected as the new Administrator for Beaufort County. He will start work on July 1, 2024. Mr. Moore was selected as the result of an extensive national executive search. Beaufort County Council Vice-Chairman McElynn said, "Mr. Moore has been appointed by unanimous consent of council to the position of Beaufort County Administrator. He has the full confidence and full support of council who wish him good luck and good fortune as he assumes the duties of the position of Beaufort County Administrator."
Michael Moore was born in Alexandria, VA and raised in Hot Springs, AR. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and served in the U.S. Navy for over 30 years as a Naval Aviator and in the Navy Shore Installation Management Enterprise. His commands included Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron THREE and Naval Support Activity Souda Bay Crete, Greece. He also served as the Operations Officer for the forward deployed USS GEORGE WASHINGTON Carrier Strike Group in Yokosuka Japan, and on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, Washington DC. His final assignment was Chief of Staff at Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic with oversight of 14 major installations in a twenty-state area of responsibility. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School and completed a 16-week International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Veterans Local Government Management Fellowship with the City of Chesapeake, VA, serving in the city manager’s office.
In November 2020, he assumed his current role as an Assistant County Manager in York County, SC. His responsibilities included oversight of the Public Works, Parks, and Engineering Departments as well as capital improvement projects. Additionally, he implemented policies as established by the County Council and assisted the County Manager and staff in the preparation, review and monitoring of county operating and capital budgets. Notable accomplishments at York County include the establishment of a County Parks and Recreation Department and the construction and renovation of county park facilities including Allison Creek Park, Catawba Bend Preserve and Ebenezer Park. He oversaw the development and adoption of Park Master Plans for Catawba Bend Preserve, Worth Mountain and the Bethel-Lake Wylie Land Acquisition and Preservation Parks District. He had oversight of utility, facility and transportation capital improvement and construction projects including the Capital Project Sales and Use Tax Programs, or Pennies for Progress Program.
Mr. Moore holds a Masters of Science, Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus, Adelphia, MD; a Masters of Science, Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute, Tullahoma, TN; and a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering from United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.
