After a national executive search, Beaufort County Council has selected its next County Administrator. Michael R. Moore, of York County, South Carolina, will join Beaufort County on July 1, 2024. He was one of three finalists. Mr. Moore is a 27-year Navy veteran and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in capital improvements, master plans, and operational oversight. His salary will be $248,000 annually, with an $8,000 car allowance per year.
Seventy-two candidates applied for the position as part of a search through the firm Find Great People. Two rounds of interviews were held over a period of five days, and from those interviews Beaufort County Council selected the finalists. The list of finalists also included Matthew Rhoten, of Gaston County, North Carolina, and Toby L. Chappell, of Greenwood, South Carolina. After lengthy discussions, Beaufort County Council unanimously decided to select Mr. Michael R. Moore.
Beaufort County Government would like to express gratitude for and recognize the work done by Interim County Administrator John Robinson over the past ten months. Beaufort County Council Vice Chairman McElynn said, “I’d like to thank John Robinson for his service as the Interim County Administrator. He stepped up when we needed him, and he's done an outstanding job for us.” Mr. McElynn’s words were echoed by those in attendance, as a standing ovation closed the announcement from Council on Tuesday evening.
Mr. Robinson welcomed Mr. Moore, saying, “When you asked me to serve as acting and then as interim in July of last year, I told you then that I would lead with character and integrity. I will continue to do that until Mr. Moore comes on board and we transition fully. He will have my full support, as do you, until such time that we finish that transition.”
