The Beaufort County Community Services and Land Use Committee met Monday and here are some highlights:

      Brief overview: 
      • Long term Resiliency Strategy-Juliana Smith, Long Range Planner
      • Passive Parks-Pocotaligo Preserve Land Management-Stefanie Nagid, Director, Passive Parks
  • Committee action was taken on the following agenda items:
    • Approval to Council for first reading of an ordinance amending the Beaufort County 2040 Comprehensive Plan to add the Beaufort County Long Term Resilience Strategy as an appendix
    • Approval of an ordinance amending the zoning map at 98 Jennings Road for T2 Rural to Neighborhood Mixed Use--voted to Council to be voted against
    • Approval to Council a resolution to name the Port Royal Library Facility in honor of former Town of Port Royal Mayor Samuel Murray
    • Approval to Council of a resolution recognizing Fair Housing Month
    • Approval of a resolution authorizing the Interim County Administrator to execute the necessary documents and provide funding for the fee simple purchase of real property known as Boundary Street Logan
    • Approval to undertake due diligence and discussion for proposed fee simple purchase of real property known as Wallace Creek

The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m., Monday evening. 

Below are some highlights from that meeting:

    • A proclamation was read recognizing Library Week
    • A proclamation was read recognizing April 2024 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month
    • A proclamation was read recognizing Alcohol Awareness and Underage Drinking Prevention Month in Beaufort County
    • A proclamation was read recognizing Hilton Head Island Public Service District
  • Public hearing and third reading of an ordinance appropriating funds from the State A-Tax funds as recommended by the state A-Tax Committee in compliance with requirements of the SC Code of Law
  • First reading of an ordinance amending the Beaufort County Ordinance establishing a road use fee
  • First reading of an ordinance authorizing the Interim County Administrator to execute any and all documents for the acceptance of properties in a development agreement between Beaufort County and Cherokee Beaufort, LLC
  • Approval of a resolution and an intergovernmental agreement between Beaufort County and Hilton Head Island for William Hilton Parkway safety and pedestrian improvements

Highlights from the Consent Agenda:

  • Third reading of an ordinance to amend Beaufort County's budget ordinance for FY24 and transfer $250,000 to the General Fund to cover unbudgeted costs for the Daufuskie Island Ferry Operations, for the purchase of real property at 333 and 335 Buckwalter Parkway
  • Originating from Public Facilities and Safety Committee-recommend approval for a request to purchase 48 recycling roll-off containers and approval of a request to purchase QTY-13 Waste Compactor Units for Beaufort County Convenience Centers

No matters arising out of Executive Session.

The next Community Services and Land Use Committee meeting will be Monday, May 13, at 3 p.m.
