Beaufort County and the Town of Hilton Head have worked with SCDOT to approve the installation of a new traffic signal at Windmill Harbor. This project is anticipated to provide immediate safety improvements on US 278 at Jenkins Island, separate from the overall US 278 Corridor project.

Update:
The County’s contractor, W. M. Roebuck, will be completing and activating a protected left turn arrow into Windmill Harbor from US 278 this Thursday, February 1.

In addition, advanced warning flashers will be installed and activated on the Eastbound lanes of US 278.

Motorists are cautioned to remain alert for traffic warning signs, equipment, and personnel.
