Free Narcan and Training to be Held at Four Beaufort County Library Branches Before the Holidays
Monday, December 11, 2023 3:57 PM
The holidays are a time of celebration and festivities for many people, but it can be one of the hardest times of the year for others. With seasonal depression, increased stress, loneliness and triggers to use substances, drug-related deaths typically increase in December.
The Beaufort County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Department, in partnership with the Beaufort County Library System and the Beaufort County First Responder Project, will be offering a free 5 minute Narcan training Monday, December 18 and Tuesday December 19 from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., at four County Library branches.
The 5 minute training will be available Monday, December 18 at:
- Bluffton Branch, 120 Palmetto Way
- Hilton Head Branch, 11 Beach City Road
The 5 minute training will be available Tuesday, December 19 at:
- Beaufort Branch, 311 Scott Street
- St. Helena Branch, 6355 Jonathan Francis Sr. Road
The training helps people understand how to identify the signs of an overdose and how to help someone who may be overdosing.
No appointment is required, and everyone who takes the five-minute training will receive free supplies of Narcan.
Free "Deterra Bags" will be available too. These bags are the proper way to dispose of expired, unwanted medication.
