Windmill Harbour Traffic Signal Project Update
Wednesday, October 4, 2023 8:44 AM
Beaufort County’s contractor, W. M. Roebuck, is expected to complete the installation of the new temporary wood pole traffic signal at the entrance to Windmill Harbour at the intersection of US 278 & C. Heinrichs Circle/ Crosstree Drive and activate the signal later this week. This signal has been operating in flash since last Thursday.
The new signal is expected to be activated Thursday October 5, at 10 a.m. assuming all conditions are appropriate. Work will continue in the overnight hours until the signal is fully activated Thursday.
At the time of the US 278 Corridor project, the traffic signal will be improved with mast arms that match the other signals throughout Hilton Head Island. Additionally, the new signal will be equipped with the same adaptive hardware and software that the Town recently installed on the other signals throughout the island.
Motorists are cautioned to remain alert for traffic warning signs, equipment, and personnel.
