At this past Monday’s Council meeting, Beaufort County Council unanimously voted on several appointments and reappointments to fill vacancies on Boards and Commissions.

“We appreciate these citizens volunteering to invest their time and expertise to help make our County a great place to live,” said Council Chairman Joseph Passiment. “Citizen involvement in our government is key to ensuring the County staff and members of Council have a strong understanding of the County’s ongoing and future needs.”

Beaufort County Boards and Commissions are Council-appointed volunteer opportunities for community members to share their expertise, input, and ideas. The Boards and Commissions help County Council anticipate, fund, and provide a cost-effective level of service.

Beaufort County’s population is expected to reach 225,000 within the next few years. That growth means increased demands on services, programs, infrastructure, and the need for increased preservation and protection of the County’s natural resources and beauty.

These County residents were appointed/reappointed to the following Beaufort County Boards:

• Board of Assessment Appeals-Robert Mackay
• Planning Commission-Peter Cook, District 6
• Disabilities and Special Needs Board-Fredreka Williamson

Some vacancies are limited to specific Council Districts. Some are looking for volunteers with specific expertise, while others welcome volunteers from anywhere in Beaufort County. To review the current list of vacancies and requirements, click here.
