Highlights and Actions: Public Facilities and Safety Committee and Beaufort County Council

The Beaufort County Public Facilities and Safety Committee met Monday and voted on a variety of items. Below are some highlights:
- The County Administrator was authorized to execute mutual aid agreements to temporarily relocate detainees during emergencies such as a large weather event
- Several resolutions were approved to use $500,000 in transportation impact fees to award construction of a traffic signal near Windmill Harbour; $384,000 for another near Bluffton Parkway/Flay Creek Drive/River Ridge Drive; $8 million for safety improvements from Okatie Center South to SC 462
- Several resolutions were approved to award disposal and recycling service contracts for demolition debris and bulky waste ($250,000), another for Green Recycle Resources and Oliver's Clean Burn and Debris Management ($185,000), Contracting Services to Ceres as Primary Contractor and Crowder Gulf as secondary
- A contract award was approved to begin construction on the warehouse expansion for the Voter Registration building on 15 John Galt Road ($385,000)
- A contract award was approved for construction services to renovate the interior and install a new HVAC system at the MC Riley Pool ($1.9 million)
The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m. Below are some highlights from that meeting:
- Public hearing and second reading for Daufuskie Short Term Rentals
- Public hearing and second reading authorizing the County Administrator to execute necessary documents for the sale of Camp St. Mary's property to Beaufort County Rural and Critical Lands Program
- First reading of an ordnance to request 502 acres at 288 Dulamo Road (aka Pine Island) be removed from the Cultural Protection Overlay (CPO)
- Approval of a resolution authorizing the County Administrator to enter a temporary custody agreement for an ordnance delivery table installation at Fort Fremont
- Approval of a resolution authorizing the County Administrator to initiate a grant program to expand broadband in Beaufort County
The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, July 10 at 5 p.m.
