Burnt Church

Beaufort County will hold a public meeting Thursday, November 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bluffton Recreation Center gymnasium, 61B Ulmer Road (map). The purpose of the proposed project is to improve roadway safety, reduce congestion, and enhance bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

The meeting will be conducted as an informal, drop-in format. There will be displays that depict the conceptual alternatives being evaluated, and representatives from Beaufort County Engineering and Parrish and Partners will be available to discuss the proposed improvements, answer questions, and listen to feedback. No formal presentation will be made.

The project corridor extends along Burnt Church Road approximately one mile from Alljoy Road/Bridge Street northeast to Bluffton Parkway. Nearby development has resulted in increased vehicular traffic along Burnt Church Road, which due to its proximity to Old Town Bluffton, schools, and recreational areas, also has the potential for high levels of bicycle and pedestrian activity.

The proposed project was identified for further evaluation and design based on the local community’s prior support of bicycle and pedestrian enhancements in the corridor, and identification of needed improvements in the Beaufort County Comprehensive Plan
