A single-engine fixed-wing aircraft ended up in a marsh at the end of the runway after an aborted takeoff around 6:30 pm from the Beaufort Executive Airport.
This runway overrun did not result in any injuries to the pilot and passenger. There were no fuel spills or other hazards identified.
Lady's Island- St. Helena Fire District and Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to the emergency. Recover of the plane is underway. The airport will remain closed until the aircraft is moved safely out of the marsh.
"I would like to thank Chief Bruce Kline and the Beaufort County Sheriff Deputies for their quick response and coordination with the FAA," said Jon Rembold, Airport Director.
The Beaufort Executive Airport is a General Aviation Airport situated on approximately 110 acres on Lady's Island. There are 34 T-Hangars located at the North end of the facility. The terminal building is around midfield and provides a pilot lounge, kitchenette area, vending machines, restroom/showers, and a conference room. Airport staff serves as the Fixed Base Operator (FBO), servicing and fueling aircraft and assisting with ground transportation and hotel arrangements.
