Beaufort County Offices to Remain Closed on January 23

Status of County Airports, Convenience Centers and Daufuskie Ferry Service
At this time, Beaufort County remains under a cold weather advisory. After consultation with Emergency Management regarding the forecast and road conditions, County offices will remain closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. A decision regarding Friday, January 24, 2025, will be communicated by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday after Emergency Management’s projection of road conditions. SCDOT has prepared a winter storm resource page that has live updates on road conditions and closures.
County Workshops & Meetings Postponed
The US 278 Workshop will be rescheduled to a later date.
The Public Facilities and Safety Committee meeting has been postponed to Monday, January 27.
The Public Meeting for the Big Estate Road Sidewalk has been postponed to Tuesday, January 28.
Chat with Council has been postponed to Tuesday, January 28th.

County Convenience Centers
County Convenience Centers will remain closed Thursday. Determinations for Friday, January 24 will be made at a later time, depending on weather conditions.
Daufuskie Island--Lowcountry Ferry Service
Ferry service to Daufuskie Island through Lowcountry Ferry has been suspended for Wednesday, January 22 and Thursday, January 23. While service is expected to resume Friday, January 24, ferry riders should monitor the website for any updates. Service is based on public safety, monitoring of weather conditions, and the Captain's discretion.
County Airports
Due to ice accumulation, both Hilton Head Island Airport and Beaufort Executive Airport airfields are closed. Travelers should check with their carriers for any possible flight delays or cancellations. Air travelers are encouraged to download their respective airline apps on their mobile devices and to enable notifications so they are sure to receive the latest official word from their airline. Travelers are encouraged to check their airlines for waivers, as well. Inquiries regarding flight information should be directed to the individual carriers. Operating schedules at both airports are subject to weather conditions.
Beaufort County Animal Services
Pets should be brought inside to shelter from the weather. Remember, if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them!

Stay Home: Please stay off the roads if possible. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly when winter weather arrives.
Wear Warm Clothing: Dress in warm layers of loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Wear a hat that covers your ears. Wear mittens and cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. Wear waterproof, insulated boots to keep your feet warm and dry and to maintain your footing in ice and snow.
Prepare Your Home: Insulate outdoor pipes, and let indoor faucets drip to prevent freezing. Be aware of possible carbon monoxide poisoning, electric shock and fire if using alternative sources for electricity, heating or cooking.
Warming Shelters
- Sea Island Presbyterian Church, 81 Lady’s Island Dr, Beaufort, will open at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19. The cold weather shelter will operate from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. through the morning of Thursday, January 23.
- Dinner, showers, and breakfast provided.
- Weapons, alcohol, smoking, and pets are not permitted.
- Service animals are allowed.
- Christ Lutheran Church, 829 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head, will operate a cold weather shelter from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. from Monday, January 20 through the morning of Thursday, January 23.
- Dinner and a to-go breakfast will be provided.
- Weapons, alcohol, smoking, and pets are not permitted.
- Service animals will be allowed.
