Beaufort County Public Works has partnered with South Carolina State Parks in its efforts to reopen the Russ Point Boat Landing at Hunting Island State Park for public use. This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies across our area working to maintain and enhance our public recreational facilities for residents and visitors alike.

Over the past week, Beaufort County Public Works has been actively involved in the project at Russ Point. On Monday, June 10, Public Works crews arrived to begin the removal of silt and mud from the boat ramps, and an excavator arrived to assist on June 11. The Public Works crews also performed weed-eating and landscape work around the parking lot perimeter and are placing erosion control fabric and stone to help prevent further erosion issues at the site.

“It has been a pleasure to be able to assist with the SC State Parks on this effort to get the Russ Point Boat Landing reopened. Mr. Thomas (Zabo) McCants, Hunting Island State Park Manager, has been a great community partner and asset,” said Assistant Public Works Director of Operations Bradley Harriott. “I would also like to thank Mr. Bobby Anderson, Superintendent at Beaufort County Public Works, for his swift action in mobilizing the necessary resources and crews to assist in this effort.”

This joint effort across agencies helps expedite the construction and reopening process for the Russ Point Boat Landing. Beaufort County remains committed to ensuring public access to recreational facilities and waterways and will continue to partner with other agencies and teams to assist in maintenance efforts. For more information on the project’s progress and potential re-opening dates (which we hear could be very soon!), visit https://southcarolinaparks.com/hunting-island.
