Beaufort County’s Passive Parks Manager is seeking public input in developing the conceptual master plans for the Pineview Preserve and Bailey Memorial Park properties.

A survey will be available to the public until Wednesday, April 7, by clicking here. The purpose of the master plan survey is to gain knowledge from the public of the type of passive recreation opportunities those who will use these properties want to see in their community.

Pineview Preserve is 110 acres of upland and wetland forests with scattered freshwater depression marshes. It is located off Sams Point Road on Lady’s Island, adjacent to Rock Springs Creek (map).

Bailey Memorial Park is 54 acres of upland and wetland forests located off Confederate Avenue in Bluffton near the May River in the Alljoy Community (map).

County code defines passive recreation as “recreation requiring little or no physical exertion focusing on the enjoyment of one’s natural surroundings. In determining appropriate recreational uses of passive parks, the promotion and development of resource-based activities such as fishing, camping, hunting, boating, gardening, bicycling, nature studies, horse-back riding, visiting historic sites, hiking, etc., shall be the predominate measure for passive park utilization."

Currently, both properties are only available to the public through pedestrian access. However, public input will be directly used to create the conceptual master plans for each property, which will allow the County to obtain funding for future passive recreation improvements and public access.

An outdoor open house for each property will be scheduled in May 2021 for further public feedback.
