The Beaufort County Public Works Department recently received the Carolina Recycling Association 2020 Annual Recycling Award. The Go Green, Keep it Clean theme included a cleanup with three neighboring counties to help ‘Protect Our Species’ by developing the first Regional Earth Day Cleanup on April 22, 2019.
The We're All In to Keep It Clean litter pick-up event included County employees, County Council members, SCDOT, Adopt-A-Highway Volunteers, local haulers, community sponsors, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, and local municipalities including the City of Beaufort, Town of Hilton Head, Town of Bluffton, and Town of Port Royal.
With assistance and guidance from Palmetto Pride, the counties of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper joined forces. The event involved 503 volunteers who picked up 2,375 bags of litter, equal to 47,500 pounds of trash and debris picked up from County roadways and waterways.
