The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has teamed up with the South Carolina Election Commission to assist residents in obtaining a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card and register voters. The event is scheduled for Friday, March 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the County’s Buckwalter Recreation Center in Bluffton (map). A demonstration of the state’s new paper-based voting system will also take place.
Citizens wishing to obtain a REAL ID or identification card should bring a government-issued birth certificate or valid U.S. Passport, proof of Social Security number, two items listing a current, physical address, and proof of all legal name changes (if applicable). The cost for the REAL ID is $25 (cash check or card accepted). For a complete list of acceptable documents, view the United States Citizens' Checklist (SCDMV Form MV-93).
Beginning October 1, 2020, citizens must have a REAL ID or another federally accepted identification card to board a domestic, commercial flight, enter a secure federal building, or visit a military installation.
For citizens wishing to register to vote, voter identification is required and can include a government-issued birth certificate or valid U.S. Passport, proof of Social Security number, two items listing a current, physical address, and proof of all legal name changes.
