Beaufort County Auditor Accepting Applications for Homestead Exemption Discount for Residents Over the Age of 65

The Beaufort County Auditor is accepting applications for the Homestead Exemption. The Homestead Exemption reduces the taxable value of property by $50,000, saving an average of $200 per year in taxes for those who qualify.
         
In order to qualify for the Homestead Exemption, the following must be true:
         
  • The property owner was age 65 on or before December 31st preceding the year in which Homestead is claimed
  • The property is the owner’s primary residence
  • The owner has been a South Carolina resident for at least one full calendar year (January – December)     
Residents who qualify for the Homestead Exemption can submit the application at any Beaufort County Auditor’s office location:
 
  • 539 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island
  • 100 Ribaut Road, Suite 160, Robert Smalls Government Complex, Beaufort
  • 4819 Bluffton Parkway, Third Floor, Bluffton
