Law Enforcement Recommends Sheltering in Place, Curfew in Effect Tonight at 10 p.m.
Wednesday, September 4, 2019 4:50 PM
Hurricane Dorian is expected to bring severe weather conditions to Beaufort County this evening, Wednesday, September 4, and into tomorrow, Thursday, September 5. Weather conditions are deteriorating.
Local law enforcement and public safety officials are currently recommending that anyone not evacuating shelter in place and avoid traveling on local roadways, especially bridges and causeways. Roads are expected to flood from storm surge and heavy rainfall. Bridges will become extremely dangerous to motorists as wind speed increases. After the storm passes, conditions in some areas may still be unsafe due to hazards such as water accumulation, debris, downed trees, and power lines.
A curfew is currently in effect countywide from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and again tomorrow night.
