The Beaufort County Airports Director Jon Rembold has announced that Hilton Head Island Airport is the recipient of a $10 million supplemental funding award for infrastructure investment by the U.S. Department Transportation. The funding is specifically designated for investments in important infrastructure needs at the nation’s airports, especially those serving smaller and rural communities like Beaufort County.
“We value our strong partnership with the FAA. This additional funding will be a big boost toward keeping the construction and renovation projects on completion schedule,” said Rembold. “It will also help us meet the Beaufort County Council goals outlined in the Hilton Head Island Airport Master Plan specifically targeting increased airline traffic, meeting the needs of a growing number of airline customers while keeping within the historical, geographical and budgetary boundaries of Beaufort County’s development plans.”
Mr. Rembold noted that Hilton Head Island Airport’s supplemental funding will be used for the commercial terminal expansion and renovation project currently in the early stages. The construction and equipment supported by this funding increases the airport’s safety, efficiency, emergency response capabilities, capacity, and could support further potential growth and development.
