BURNT CHURCH ROAD IMPROVEMENTS Public Input Meeting Thursday, November 9, 2023 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Bluffton Recreation Center 61B Ulmer Road

Public Meeting:

A second public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 9, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., at the Bluffton Recreation Center gymnasium, 61B Ulmer Road, Bluffton, SC. No formal presentation will be made. Representatives from the project team will be available to answer questions and receive input regarding the proposed project. The deadline for providing comments is December 7, 2023.

Background:

The project corridor extends along Burnt Church Road approximately 1.3 miles, from Alljoy Road/Bridge Street northeast to Bluffton Parkway. The project was identified for further evaluation and design based on the local community’s prior support of bicycle and pedestrian enhancements in the corridor, and identification of needed improvements in the Beaufort County Comprehensive Plan. Proposed improvements include the addition of a center turn lane, bike lanes, sidewalks, enhanced pedestrian crossings, and landscaping.

The first public input meeting was held in November 2022.  Concerns raised included property impacts, pedestrian safety, and vehicle speeds within the corridor. To address these comments, the project team has adjusted the preferred roadway alignment and reduced the proposed facility width.

Beaufort County is seeking input relative to the proposed improvements and the project corridor. At the November 9 th meeting, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the proposed Burnt Church Road Improvements project individually with representatives of the project team. Information will also be gathered from the public or any interested organization regarding historic or cultural resources in the area.

Meeting Format:

Maps and renderings of the Preferred Alternative will be available, and participants may ask questions and provide comments regarding the project’s possible social, economic and environmental impacts. Tentative project schedules will be discussed. Residents and business owners in or near the Burnt Church Road project corridor are encouraged to attend.
