b'Community EngagementCounty-wide ReassessmentIn late May, the Government Services Division of the Department of Revenue, in compliance with Regulation 117-1720.2, approved the issuance of tax year 2023 assessment notices for Beaufort County. This is essentially the green light every 5 years for the issuance of reassessment notices, and is a major hurdle in the reassessment process.County Assessor, Ebony Sanders, took the show on the road, so to speak, by scheduling a series of community events, news interviews, and informational presentations wherein taxpayers could meet with staff concerning the Quadren-nial Reassessment as well as ask questions about legal residency status. Ms. Sand-ers and the Assessors Office held 15 community information sessions over 3 months at Beaufort County library branches throughout the County. The Assessors Office works on behalf of citizens to:Appraise real property and mobile homes for ad valorem tax purposes.Handle appeals on the value of real property appraised by the Assessors office.Review and approve or disapprove real properties for the legal residence special assessment.
