b'Community Services & SafetyWhitehall Park Opens to the Public On April 21, 2023 the Grand Opening celebration was held for Whitehall Park. Beaufort County Councilman York Glover and City of Beaufort Mayor Stephen Murray provided opening remarks and cut the ribbon.Whitehall Park is located at 120 White Hall Drive, Ladys Island and is owned by Beaufort County, with the City of Beaufort providing maintenance of the property. The park is 9.72-acres of mixed pine and live oak canopy along a salt marsh point on the Beaufort River.Passive recreation amenities at the park include public access with a pervious parking lot, pervious sidewalks, a pavilion with restrooms and water fountains, a picnic garden under live oak canopy, and benches along the scenic river front. A boardwalk also joins the lighted pervious multi-use pathway along the causeway to the Woods Memorial Bridge. This pathway will allow visitors and residents to safely walk or bike from downtown Beaufort to the residential and shopping areas on Ladys Island, day or night.Whitehall Park is open to the public Monday through Sunday from dawn to dusk by an automatic timed gate. Call 843-255-2152 to reserve.Point in Time Count Held to Ascertain Homelessness Needs In January the Human Services Department conducted our communitys most successful Point-in-Time Count.Each year, hundreds of volunteers across the State of South Carolina conduct surveys with individuals experiencing homelessness to understand their barriers to homelessness and connect them to services.Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program ExpansionsIn 2023, an Addiction Counselor was placed in the Beaufort County Detention Center. This is to provide a warm hand-off for individuals exiting the center that may need to seek services. Between January 1, 2023, and December 19, 2023, 750 individuals were admitted into programs that assist with addiction, recovery, and support. The Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse also hosted several Narcan training and distribution events to help fight opioid abuse and overdoses in Beaufort County.'
