Public Meeting:

Thursday, September 19, 2019, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. To be held in the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island gymnasium, 151 Gumtree Rd, Hilton Head Island, SC. This meeting will be conducted in an “open house” format.  Interested persons may attend this informal public information meeting at any time between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., in which Department representatives will be available to answer questions regarding the proposed project. A Virtual Public Information Meeting will also be available online at www.scdot278corridor.com.

 

Purpose:

The US 278 project is approximately 4.14 miles long beginning at Moss Creek Drive and terminating at Spanish Wells Road. Possible improvements may include the widening or replacement of the east and west bound Mackay Creek Bridges and the Twin Bridges over Skull Creek. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to discuss individually with representatives of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the proposed US 278 Corridor Improvements project and provide an update to the community on the project. Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.  SCDOT is seeking input as a part of this public information meeting to assist in identifying information relative to this project. 

 

Process:

Tentative project schedules for completion of the Environmental Assessment (EA) will be discussed.  Maps of the project study area and reasonable alternatives will be available, and citizens may ask questions and provide comments regarding the possible social, economic and environmental effects of the project.  Property owners and business owners on or near the project area are urged to attend.
